Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor 2, SG-17, the incumbent will perform journey-level sign painting activities and may supervise others in the production and repair of signs of metal, wood, and other materials used for a variety of purposes including regulating, directing and guiding highway traffic and for education and information purposes. Duties may include, but may not be limited to:
Minimum qualifications required for this vacancy include four years of full-time experience in the design, lettering and making of signs under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in painting and sign painting at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience. Reassignment qualifications: current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Trades Specialist (Sign Fabrication).
Operating needs include possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
