The Urban Art Collab - Art Instructor - Music Production Job Type: 1099 Contract Job Length: 2 weeks Dates: June 8th - June 12th & June 15th to June 19th Time: 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm Job location: Atlanta, Georgia (On-Site) Lunch Provided* About us Urban Poets is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting artists and communities to inspire positive social change. Founded in Atlanta in 2019, the organization began as a poetry open mic created to raise awareness about poverty and homelessness. Since then, Urban Poets has evolved into a multidisciplinary arts and youth development nonprofit that operates at the intersection of art, access, and advocacy. Our purpose is to use arts education, creative workforce development, and culturally rooted programming to strengthen communities—particularly in historically underinvested neighborhoods of Fulton County. We believe art is a catalyst for connection, healing, academic achievement, and economic mobility.. Program Brief Overview The Urban Art Collab is an annual program that offers participants the opportunity to engage with art, culture, and history; develop workplace and team-building skills; and learn about a range of professional options and career paths. We encourage students to use their creativity and teamwork skills to create a musical recording that promotes positive social change. Urban Poets will invite high school students to our 10-day summer camp. We ask each student to select a course then we pair the students into groups. The groups will consist of a writer, a music producer, and an audio engineer. At the end of the program, students are asked to perform their musical creation, and we invite our SMEs to help evaluate their projects. We also invite the students' friends and family to our closing ceremony so they can see their performances. Job Description We are seeking an experiencedMusic Production Instructor that will help drive our Youth Development Outcomes through positive staff practices that create a high-quality experience rooted in Fun, Recognition, Sense of Belonging, Physical Safety, Emotional Safety, High Expectations & Opportunities, and Supportive Relationships. The Music Production Instructor is responsible to assist, support, and help develop the art program to ensure it is aligned with the vision and focus of the organization’s goals. The position supports the music producer workshop curriculum for grades 9th - 12th and assists with all special projects and supportive functions related. The Music Production Instructor reports directly to the Executive Director or Program Director. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Music Production Instructor plans and facilitates collaborative and interactive digital music production instructional sessions. Major Duties: Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. Provide instruction that encourages youth to explore, understand, appreciate and apply creativity. Meets regularly with the Program Director Plans and facilitates digital music production instructional sessions focused on music theory and the use of various Digital Audio Workstations (Logic Pro & Pro Tools) Assists students in the development of digital music production skills Inspire and support students as they progress through our program Contribute to the fine-tuning of the curriculum with the rest of the education team Models appropriate academic and social behaviors Performs other duties as assigned Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work with students of diverse ethnic backgrounds, academic profiles, and skill levels. Possess good interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge and ability to demonstrate skill in a variety of musical areas including history, culture, and instrument specific instruction. Must be able to prepare students of a variety of experience levels. Passionate about inspiring, mentoring, and helping others learn. Must have an advanced understanding of music theory and technique relevant to primary instruments. Content Knowledge Evidence - Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college/university in the teaching field or closely related field, (or relevant current industry license or certification in Music Production). At least 3 years of work experience in the field.
